Short/Long Weekend

Well, I know it's been awhile since I last posted ... But I have been so exhausted! The long weekend last weekend just made me confused for the whole week ... I think I did everything a day late! We had a Couples' Conference this weekend at church. It was based on the book Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs. Devin and I have already read the book but we thought it would be interesting to see it actually presented. We really just watched a video alllll day long ... It wouldn't have been so bad, but Jack had to stay in the nursey all day and he was SUPER CRANKY by the time it was over. Not to mention, I had a HORRIBLE migraine ... I came home and went right to sleep for awhile. Devin was AMAZING, though ... He fed Jack, bathed him, and got him to bed ... I got up long enough to take some Tylenol but all that would really help a headache like that was a lot of sleeping in a pitch black room. I don't know why I get these headaches ... I'm hoping it's just my vision. I know I'm supposed to be wearing glasses ... I can't read anything more than a few feet away. I'm making an eye appointment within te next couple of weeks and hopefully that solves my problems! :)

Devin helped me get the house back in order on Sunday. Our yard is all finished and we are just waiting for out grass to sprout! I hope it does soon ... I hate having an all dirt backyard! Plus, Jack can't really play out there with it like that ... And when I take him out to the playground, he sometimes runs off so I'm constantly chasing him! I'm ready to have my yard back!

We finally got our free blooming onion giftcards in the mail from Outback. We went out to eat at Outback a few weeks ago ... We used some giftcards we got from my parents. The bill was a little more than the cards so we put the rest and the tip on our debit card. Well, I ALWAYS check our bank account online, sometimes twice a day ... And instead of having a $9.44 charge to our account, we had a $19.44 charge to our account! I know a lot of restaurants will sneak and do that because they think no one checks those things ... But we do and we were UPSET about it! Devin called Outback and they refunded the $10 they STOLE (because that's EXACTLY what they did) and they sent us some free coupons. I don't even like blooming onions, LOL ... But Devin does and he's happy. Plus we got our $10 back ... But still ... That is SO WRONG.

I got Jack a stuffed Spongebob today after I went to file our taxes ... He LOVES it! I tucked Spongebob in next to him tonight and he held his hand and gave him a kiss and said, "Night night bob bob!" SO CUTE! I just went in to check on him and he was all snuggled up to him!

Well I've finished SEVERAL books since the last time I posted ... I won't list them all. I bought Devin he's been wanting to read ... It's called Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Weird, I know ... But he said it's really good and I've heard that from several people. It's supposed to have a lot of historical information in it. They are even making it into a movie next year. He wants me to read it as soon as he finishes it so we can "discuss" it, lol.

I'm really behind in my Bible reading, I'm so ashamed. :( I get so caught up with reading everything else in the world ... I know I should be reading my Bible first. I'm really going to try to get back at that.

This is all for now ... Hopefully I won't go so long without writing next time. :)

I'm 23!

Today is my birthday! It doesn't feel like my birthday, though ... I've been working ALLLL day. I always slack on housework when it's the weekend ... And since this was a long weekend, I had work to do today! I can't stand for my house to be dirty ... So I made a to-do list and got to work! I did take a break between each room to respond to birthday wishes on Facebook and read the book I was working on ... It was a REALLY GOOD book so I wanted to finish it today! ("Shooting Kabul" by N.H. Senzai ... READ IT!) I didn't get entirely finished ... I still need to vacuum the whole house and clean out my car. AND I have a few more loads of laundry ... But I feel like I accomplished a lot today!

This morning, my friend Keshia's husband Myatt came over and helped me load up the giant tiller from yesterday and take it back to the equipment rental place. I NEVER could have picked that thing up myself ... In fact, he did most of the work! I then had to load up a lawnmower and weedeater to take back to the self-help store ... I am SO thankful my parents got us a lawnmower this weekend!! I will never have to load that other one in my car again!

Jack was one tired kid all day today! He played SO HARD outside yesterday ... He was still exhausted today! But by the time his daddy got home, he was ready to go back out. He has gotten over his fear of the big slide on the playground and he goes down it over and over again! There is a 6 or 7 year old boy that comes over to play on the playground with Jack a lot. Jack LOVES him! He gets Jack's ball and tells Jack to throw it different places and he'll bring it back to him. Jack just laughs and laughs ... It's so cute!

For supper tonight, I made homemade pizzas. (Well, the crusts were store bought!) This was Jack's first real pizza ... I had to use a dairy-free cheese, but everything else was just like our pizzas! He would barely try it! I was so sad ... He ended up scraping the toppings off and eating those but he wouldn't try the crust. :( I'll just have to try again in a few weeks!!

I got my Shark steam mop all put together today and mopped my floors! It didn't do as good a job as I had hoped, BUT it's a lot easier to use than the regular mop, especially when I have to go upstairs to mop the bathroom. Plus, the floor at least FEELS cleaner when you walk on it!

My in-laws sent me a birthday card with some cash today ... Wasn't that nice? I'm probably going to make a trip to Target and/or Kirklands to find more stuff for the house ... I can't wait!

Well, I'm pooped after a long day of cleaning! I finished a few books today, "Shooting Kabul," "The Van Gogh Cafe" by Cynthia Rylant, and "The Vicar of Nibbleswicke" by Roald Dahl. Now I'm reading "Caddie Woodlawn" by Carol Ryrie Brink. Also, I finished Exodus last night! Tonight, I start Leviticus ... I'm still about a month behind in my Bible reading, but I hope to catch up soon!

Goodnight all!

What a Wonderful Weekend! :D

Well, the weekend sure flew by ... But it really was a great one! My parents drove in from Arkansas and got here around 9:30 Friday morning! I couldn't wait to see them! Plus, I was VERY excited to show them our house! Our teeny apartment in Pensacola was our first little home ... But we didn't live there long enough to really get settled in and make it our "own." We have decided that we absolutely LOVE living on base here so we got right to work fixing everything up! I LOVE IT! :D

After showing my parents the house, we went outside for something and got LOCKED OUT. The wind caught the garage door and slammed it shut ... Of course I didn't have a key! I've been on Devin about leaving the patio door unlocked at night so I ran around back to see if it was unlocked and guess what? He had locked it! I had raised windows but they were all upstairs ... It took some ingenuity, but finally got inside. That was enough excitement in one day for me!

After taking my parents to get a pass, we picked up Devin and went to Burger King on base for lunch! They have Spongebob toys there right now so Jack was SO excited! He LOVES "Bob Bob!" Jack is also addicted to Icee's ... I didn't know they had them at Burger King, but now I do ... And so does Jack! He used to just yell "ICEE!" every time we passed Target, but now ...

After dropping Devin back off at work, we hit the mall for a little shopping. The Children's Place was having a big sale so "Meme/Gammie" got Jack lots of summer clothes! He's going to look so cute! :D We also did a little damage to Old Navy ... Mommy & Meme had to look cute on the beach, too! While shopping, my dad took Jack for lots of rides on the train ... He couldn't get enough! My parents also took me to get my birthday present ... A new Flip camera! Jack accidentally broke mine last year ... It's the best little thing ever. I can carry it around in my pocket and capture video of Jack at any time! I love it!

After picking Devin up from work, we came back to the house so I could get started on supper! I cooked Nacho Bake for my parents ... This seems to be the meal I end up cooking for everyone, mostly because we eat it almost once a week! We love it THAT much! (Go to velveeta.com and type in nacho bake for the recipe! It's the best!)

Saturday morning, Devin got up early to cook everyone breakfast and to head to Lowe's with my dad. He had drawn up plans for fixing up our backyard. Everyone knows you can't help but go a little crazy when you get to Lowe's ... Especially with that military discount. I ended up being called up there to pick out some patio furniture and flowers for the yard. It took 2 cars and 2 trips back and forth but we finally got it all home! Mom & Dad got us a lawnmower, which we DESPERATELY needed! They also got us our patio furniture! It's so pretty! I can't WAIT until the yard is all finished and I can sit out on our patio with a book and watch Jack play in our YARD! I can't believe we finally have our own yard! :)

Saturday afternoon we ventured out to a beach between Okaloosa Island and Destin ... We were loaded up with beach gear ... Sand toys, umbrellas, chairs ... and Dad got a kite to fly. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time! It was so good to see Jack actually playing in the sand instead of being too scared to even touch it!

After leaving the beach, we went to The Fresh Market to buy steaks for my birthday dinner. Dad and Devin were like two kids in a toy store picking out their HUGE steaks. They seriously got like 4 pounds of meat! By the way, Devin is STILL eating on those steaks ... He's had leftovers for lunch (and once for supper) every night since then!

Sunday morning, we took my parents to church with us. We've found a church here that we really, really like! It's small, but they teach the truth and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It feels like a family! If you live in the area and are looking for a church, try Westwood Baptist on Hollywood Blvd! You won't be disappointed! :)

My parents got ready to leave Sunday afternoon ... It was not a happy day. :( Jack really misses his Meme and PopPop! They took Jack for one last ride on the train at the mall and distracted him with an Icee so he wouldn't cry. Since they've left, we've tried to keep him distracted by letting him play lots out in the yard. It works some, but he asks for them and misses them still. :( So do I!

Today was President's Day so Devin was off work. We've been working in the yard ALL DAY ... Our sunburns prove it! :) We finished both flower beds and our garden ... They look great! Devin rented a gas-powered tiller and tilled the entire yard ... I know people around here think we are crazy, but we are planting new grass so our yard looks even! It may look like mass destruction for now, but it will look beautiful in a few weeks! :)

Well, this was a long post ... Probably too long. But I had to cover several days! I finished my book "Shen of the Sea: Chinese Stories for Children" by Arthur Bowie Chrisman and it was a cute book. Now, I'm reading "Shooting Kabul" by N. H. Senzai. It's really good so far! It reminds me of "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini! I've been slacking on my Bible reading :( so I haven't finished Exodus yet ... but I'm almost there! Goodnight all! :D

My First Attempt at a Blog ... Since High School, Anyway!

So who remembers Xanga? I'm sure anyone who went to AGS remembers it ... It's how we stayed in touch before Mr. Zuckerberg decided to let high school seniors (who already had their new college email addresses) join Facebook. I suppose this can be my new Xanga ... I updated that thing ALL OF THE TIME. I also had nothing else to do ... But, maybe even now, with my mommy and wife responsibilities, I can keep this thing up to date! :)

Today has been a pretty good day! Jack and I got up a little later than planned (8 a.m.!) We worked on cleaning the house ... and I worked on new ways to trick Jack into eating things that are good for him! (Or at least fattening ... He needs some meat on his bones!) Telling him things are "cookies" or "french fries" USUALLY works ... But I had to get creative today when he refused to eat an oatmeal muffin because he wanted a "tuptake." A few minutes after his fit, he saw the big blueberry muffins IN CUPCAKE PAPER and exclaimed, "TUPTAKE!" I then proceeded to put cupcake paper on his oatmeal muffin and surprise, surprise ... He ate it. What a little stinker!

After getting the car from Devin, Jack and I made a trip to the self-help store on base. I discovered a pretty large fire ant hill in our backyard yesterday and I can get stuff to kill them for FREE at the self-help store ... You can't beat that! I ended up coming out with a garden hose, sprinkler, door knob covers for Jack, a new shower head, and a new air filter. I also checked out a lawnmower, weed eater, and rake. So let me ask you this ... Why doesn't anyone around here work in their yard?! That place has everything you need FOR FREE! I admit, I never got out in the yard to work when I lived with my parents ... But now that I have my own home (sort of, haha) and a yard for Jack to play in, I want it to be nice! The base gives you everything you need to do it ... You just have to get out there!

While Jack napped, I cleaned more of the house, did laundry, cleaned out & vacuumed my car, and swept the garage. When he woke up, he wanted to go outside, so I grabbed up my borrowed rake and got to work on the giant sandbox behind our house. I'm happy to announce, it's as clean as I could get it! Now Devin should be happy because we don't have to put a sandbox in the yard ... And the one behind our fence is big enough for about 30 kids to plan in! So everyone! Come have fun with Jack! :)

Finally, after Devin got home, we both kept changing the settings on the microwave while defrosting hamburger meat ... Needless to say, the hamburger meat got ruined. I won't say whose fault it was ... *cough cough* ;) but I ended up running out for Mickey D's & Subway. I guess we deserve it ... We've been really good about eating at home for ALL meals lately. I've been cooking and baking like CRAZY! I deserved a break! :)

Well, I guess it's time to go to sleep ... My parents will be here early in the a.m.! YAY! I need to read a few chapters of my Bible before I doze off ... I'm a little behind if I want to finish it in a year, but I'm almost finished with Exodus! I also finished two other books today ... "The Cat Who Went to Heaven" by Elizabeth Coatsworth (not very good, in my opinion) and "Miss Hickory" by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey (also not the greatest ... Very weird, actually). I started "Shen of the Sea: Chinese Stories for Children" tonight so maybe it will be a little better! Good night all! :D
